Showtime's critically acclaimed series Weeds will be concluding its run this year.

According to Entertainment Weekly, show creator Jenji Kohan isn't sure what the final season will include beyond resolving last season's assassination attempt

"I'm so proud of what we do here and that it's about a strong woman lead who's really flawed," Jenji told the news source. "We get to do comedy right up against drama, which a lot of shows don't get the opportunity to do."

Premiering in 2005, Weeds was one of Showtime's flagship shows that confirmed the network's ability to produce intriguing original content, and in turn paved the way for programs like Nurse Jackie and Californication.

"No matter how close [Jenji] has gone to the edge of everything falling apart, she reels the story back in, grounds it, and brings you back," said Lionsgate TV Group president Kevin Beggs, assured that the series finale will be a satisfying one for die-hard fans. "It's an art form."

Weeds' eighth and final season premieres Sunday, July 1 at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
