Gillian Picks A 'Friend' For World's End
On June 14, I implored you to seek out Seeking A Friend For The End of the World, a splendid new film that's as tough to define as it is tough to forget. An act I will repeat today as I bring you this new interview with Gillian Jacobs, who makes a hilarious cameo in the star-studded film as a waitress in the dying world's most exuberant chain restaurant.
Turns out, Gillian had nothing to draw from for the role since she might be the only actress in history that never spent any time waiting tables! That was just one of the fun facts I learned during our End of the World-themed chat!
TheInsider.com: How did you get involved with Seeking A Friend?
Gillian Jacobs: I am friends with Lorene Scafaria [writer/director] and she asked me to play this particular part. I read the script, fell for it and it was just a total no-brainer. I think it's great to be the comedic relief in a film where I can come in, have one great scene and then peace out.
Insider.com: Did you think, "What is it about our friendship that makes her think of me for this role?"
Gillian: [laughs] Well, before Community, I used to only play prostitutes, so I was really excited to play a waitress on ecstasy. That seemed like a lot of fun.

Insider.com: Is there a secret to ecstasy acting?
Gillian: I did a lot of spinning in circles and just tried to be as happy as possible while touching everything and loving textures.
Insider.com: The role also gives you the unique ability to answer the following question: Who is the better kisser, Steve Carell or Keira Knightley?
Gillian: Um, I can't answer that [laughs]. Who do you think is the better kisser? But I will tell you that I have returned to Steve Carell, actually. I'm in another film with him called Burt Wonderstone where we kiss once again.
Insider.com: Is that you subconsciously answering?
Gillian: [laughs] Totally.
Insider.com: If you had to spend your end of the world with any character from Community, who would it be?
Gillian: Ken Jeong's character, Senior Chang because he's totally crazy.

Insider.com: Something tells me you might not make it to the end of the world with Chang as your partner.
Gillian: That's a good point. We'd somehow wind up in jail before the apocalypse ever happened.
Insider.com: Seeking A Friend features an insane amount of amazing celebrities in short, separate vignettes -- if you could share a scene with anyone else in the film, who would it be?
Gillian: Adam Brody and I are on a streak because we're in another movie where we don't share any scenes together – so after being in two films with him, but never working opposite him, I'd like to pick him.
